Growing your business
I wanted to take a quick moment to talk to everyone about striving for greatness in your profession.
Everyday I wake up and think to myself, "What can I do today that will set myself apart from yesterday, what can I do to excel today?" I draw from the positive actions that my significant other shows me, and I greet the day with not just a "can do..." attitude, but a "I can't wait to do...” mind frame.
I begin my day by listening to audio clips of great spoken moments in our history. These clips make the hairs on my arm stand straight up when I hear the passion behind the words that are spoken. Some of the clips come from Martin Luther King Jr. and his Promised Land speech, FDR in his radio addresses, and JFK in his presidential speeches.
The reason I listen to these clips everyday is because it arouses my inner sense of “greatness”, it makes me want to do more than what I am currently doing. Most often it stimulates me to think about doing things for other people, rather than directing toward self gratification. It is really amazing the way the human mind works when the right stimulus is applied.
So, it has been a few months now since I have been listening to these clips in the morning, and occasionally I will switch them out for
something slightly different. However, the message that I am trying to deliver to myself is always the same, “Get up, get out and do something great!” It is almost like I am drinking a shot of “life’s vitality” every morning for a quick charge to approach the day.
I offer up this little piece of my life in order to make a correlation between thinking about doing something great, and accomplishing greatness. There is a very fine line between these two areas; all you have to do is motivate yourself. Next time, when you receive a thought or feeling that says, “Hey, this would be something that would really be great”, grab that idea and run with it immediately. Set up stimuli in your life that pushes you to go above and beyond your normal thought process to accomplish all that you dream of.
Everyone can dream big, but not everyone takes those dreams and makes them a reality. This is a big quality contained with the definition of greatness.
The best part is; everyone has the ability to dream, therefore everyone has the ability to become great!
